I can be creative – but I might be running out of hot dog ideas. Take a gander at the link (Hot Dog). I’ve thrown together some crazy ass hot dogs in the few years this site has been around. But I keep digging. I do this for you. Today, we’re going to take a look at sosis bandari.. or what I’ll call from here on out: The Iranian hot dog.
The Prep Table

I don’t imagine many of you looking to recommend making Iranian hot dogs at your next barbeque, but here me out – you may want to. Look at the ingredient list and it may not be all that unusual. The thing that threw me off – was the potatoes.. but keep on reading and you’ll see how that made it stand apart.

I love a good diced vegetable cutting board. As much as I bitch and moan sometimes about the preparation, I do enjoy it. Now that we got these lined up, it’s time to get working
The Process

So this isn’t true sosis bandari, as we’re not cutting up the hot dog/sausage. But we’re doing it my way. Blackstoned these potato cubes, but didn’t go crazy on the crisp. This dog was going to have enough going on, I didn’t need to Captain Crunch the roof of my mouth when I was enjoying it. We’re going cook ’em for texture and then set ’em aside.

Any good blackstone story has the tale of P&O in oil. Today’s no different. Get ’em nice and soft then throw in the garlic.

We’re going to round out the cook. Once your veg is soft, throw in the seasonings/tomato paste and make sure it’s well incorporated. Then it’s time to get the dog rolling.

We’re using the costco beef dogs, and ain’t no bun made that’s going to fit these things. So fashioned the bun to accommodate the link. A little weird, but it works.
The Result

This was the closest bun I could find to what may be traditional. Far cry, but I work with what I got. Once the dog is cooked, layer on the veggie mix and then top it with those crisp potatoes. That there is your sosis bandari. I’ve continued to read that the following is optional, but after trying it and typing this weeks later – not optional. If you enjoy the pickle/tomato flavor, add it.

Only thing I forgot was the parsley topper, but it was good enough as is. What really made this thing stand out were those potato bits. Potato on a hot dog works, and it may continue my adventure into finding new ways to paint the canvas. Iranian sosis bandari hot dog – who would’ve thought. Happy thanksgiving to you and yours and we’ll come back to wrap up 2025!
