Locale (HI): The Loco Moco

In my continuing endeavor to give you some State specialties, we’re going over to Hawaii for the Loco Moco. I could’ve phoned it in and said the Spam Musubi was good enough, but I wanted to bring you something else. My research said the loco moco was a thing, so let’s make it a thing over here at ForensicBBQ.com

The Prep Table

Burger on rice, I’m in all day.

This will be a quick post because there isn’t a whole lot to it. I don’t remember if the Furikake was traditional or not, but I was going to use it anyway.

The Process\

Those super fatty rich burgers!
Rice with furikake.

You saw I made my own burger blend for the first time. I made it with way too much fat (Short Rib, Bacon, Chuck). That blend was way too fatty for traditional use, but we can make it work. If you’re doing a thick patty, prepare to cook that fat out, use more of the blend than you’re used to. We’re going to cook it and top it with an egg and some green onion.

The Result

Loco Moco!

Top the furikake rice with the burger then drizzle some gravy on top. Add an egg, some green onion and we made our Loco Moco. I’m going to lose some followers here, but I don’t like a runny yolk, but I did it for y’all here. I sliced into it, let it drizzle across the dish and ate it just fine. Simple, hearty, filling – Hawaii does it right.
