Here’s another quick bite for y’all. To celebrate our 100th post – I thought, why not give you a mid-week extra? For some reason, when the New Year comes around – I feel the need to eat up food around the house. Find some things that are nearing expiration, some things hanging around in the fridge for awhile – basically eating my way back to an empty pantry. In this case, I had a pack of freebie hot dogs and a $1 pack of expiring buns. Let’s see what I came up with.
This one used up some diced onion in the fridge, some quite expired pico de Gallo, pickled jalapeños and some hot sauce. This was a good start to my week of hot dogs. I didn’t do anything special to these dogs/buns, so the toppings were going to make these meals. I’ll give this one a 7/10.
You saw that I love my coney dog, especially with that Red Hots Chili. When I went into the pantry, I had a local market’s “Hot Dog Chili”. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t Red Hots. Diced onion, fresh cracked pepper and some freezer fries. With some ghost pepper ketchup. Rated 6/10.
Didn’t eat the whole can of chili the other day, so we came back with it. Decided to throw some shredded cheese on there instead of onion. Went back with the freezer fries – which by the way were my favorite yet. If you haven’t had McCain’s Craft Beer Battered Potatoes Thin Cut, give them a try. Pair it with my homemade BBQ sauce – damn good. Maybe it was chili dog part 2, maybe it was the cheese – wasn’t my favorite. 4/10.
Used up the last of the freezer fries for this one. Had a jar of turkey gravy in the pantry from thanksgiving – my mind went immediately to Poutine. Sure, it’s not beef gravy – and I didn’t have cheese curds, but I went with it anyway. Had some sliced cheese that I balled up to make it look curd-like, popped the fries on there, and ladled the gravy on. This one needs re-visited, because it was fantastic! Easy 8/10.
That’s how we do the Quick Bites here at ForensicBBQ. And thanks for those who have stuck around for one hundred posts. Thanks!
