4N6 BBQ Presents: Hot Sauce Medley

Since we started this “4n6BBQ Presents…” series, it’s really our excuse to get a group of friends together and watch some sports, grill up some wings, and try some hot sauces. I still want to showcase the small batch, local hot sauces – so if you have any recommendations, please e-mail us at info@forensicbbq.com. We’ll buy ’em, we’ll try ’em, and give our honest opinions. Check out the past posts, and you’ll see we take it seriously.

Having no recommendations for this bout, I dug some out of the pantry and decided this is what we’re doing. SiblingBBQ gifted me the Steve-O hot sauces (and the accompanying wet wipes) so these ones had to be thrown in the mix. Melinda’s is probably my favorite commercial sauce, so these were at Marshalls one day and I got ’em on the cheap.

The gladiators

Elijah’s was another one that I found at Marshall’s, so that one was going. The other ones were picked up here and there with no real rhyme or reason. I’m not going to grade these as I’ve done in the past, because I’m not going to compare apples to oranges. If I was doing a straight Melinda’s taster, we’re competing against their own product. I will tell you what surprised, and which one we all enjoyed (not necessarily the hottest, but the best all around go-to).

Of all the sauces, of the fantastic smoked/grilled wings (of which I took zero pictures of) – we had one standout winner of the day. This one blew us away, and while it was too hot for some (Zach) – it was exactly what I wanted out of the product. Let me recommend to you:

Dragon’s Fury Flamin’ Hot Salsa

This salsa – and I say this with confidence – was perfect. It’s beyond hot, but that’s what I – personally – want. The consistency, the acidity.. everything worked perfectly. Go check out The Spicy Gnome and see if there’s any in stock: Dragon’s Fury Flamin’ Hot Salsa. I don’t make any money to recommend or promote .. when someone does it right, they’ll earn the praise. Well done my friends, you won the day.

Dip’n sampler

We did things a bit differently today. Threw some in a bowl, dipped the wing, and ate. Now, I ended up just pouring more sauce a top and used the bowl as a splash-zone, but this method worked okay. You can see the consistency and color of the sauces.

The last of the pictures

This day was particularly cold, so I didn’t have much phone time to take pictures for y’all.. my apologies. But we tasted, we shed tears of pain, and we persisted. By far, the most surprising sauces to come out of this taster were Steve-O’s – both the “standard” as well as the “butthole destroyer”. I went into this thinking it was a novelty sauce, but came away with it being actually very good. Kudos!

Short little post as we head into MrsForensicBBQ and I’s Valentines’ post. Hope you and your significant others enjoy the day!
