Banana Protein Turds – Fail!

Today, I bring you a complete and total failure!  We all fail at times, this is how we learn!  I figured I would share with you one of these failures!

I found this recipe on @veganbowls.  It looked yummy and fun! It was called Protein Banana Bites.  The recipe called for bananas, protein powder, peanut butter, chocolate, and chia seeds.  Simple enough, right?!  I cut the bananas into coins.  The peanut butter got mixed with some protein powder.  This peanut butter protein powder mix got spread between two banana coins.  These were then frozen for about a half-hour.  While these were chilling (literally and figuratively), I melted the chocolate with a little coconut oil to smooth it out.  The original recipe called for white chocolate, but I opted for dark chocolate.

Looking ok so far…

The recipe then directed to dip the banana coins into the chocolate, then roll them in chia seeds.  Easier said than done.  Way too much chocolate clung to the bananas and they were all lopsided and different sizes.  The results looked nothing like the picture on @veganbowls!  However, I still thought I could salvage them and maybe they were at least edible.  I froze them again to harden the chocolate.  They were then transferred to the refrigerator in a container.  What I did not consider is the water content of the frozen bananas seeping to the bottom of the container as they defrosted and the bananas turning brown and shriveled.  They looked awful. Like turds in the toilet.  Mr. FBBQ made a comment about the oddity of the word “turd” on a cooking website, but it’s an accurate description!  These went directly to the garbage disposal.  I’m disappointed, but maybe next time I’ll do ‘em right!

Chocolate, pre-mess
It’s bad when the Chia Seeds are the least-messy part of your recipe!
NOT looking like the photo on Instagram, but still edible-looking
Pre-meltdown, breakdown, smooshy-brown-bananas in water mess.
